What a fine article, Corinne - pithy and apt*. Paris, here I come! I particularly appreciate the reminder to consult a native speaker when preparing any marketing pieces. Thank you so much for sharing your valuable insights and experience.

Excellent advice, Corinne. I had not thought of writing for trade publications; I must do it. Trade shows are a great idea. I spent two days at the Global Gaming Expo here in Vegas visiting current and future clients; and it takes nerves to walk up to strangers at these huge booths; but the potential rewards are great. Or so I hope. :)

@Karen, that sounds great! The tax-deductible vacation is definitely one of the perks of freelancing. I actually owe the "agency interview" idea to Melanie Shepherd, a friend who used to freelance and now works in-house at the UN. She went to translation school in Paris and then worked at an agency there, and said that in her experience, French agencies were usually up for spontaneous meetings with prospective freelancers. Definitely let me know how it goes!!

Exellent thoughts Corinne. I've been determining how to make part of next summer's European trip tax deductible and had thought of networking with the SFT and the IOL or ITI, but I hadn't thought of trying to visit agencies.
Thanks.
